An unidentified person has looted approximately Rs.40 lakh worth of cash from the Sarthal branch of Jammu and Kashmir Bank in Kishtwar district.
People of Agral village called the police this morning when they saw the shutter of the bank broken and open.
On reaching the spot, police found the lock of the shutter broken and one of the lockers of the bank empty.
Nearly Rs.20 lakh of old Rs.500 and Rs.1000 denomination and approximately Rs.20 lakh in Rs.2000 and Rs.100 is missing according to the manager of the bank.
The bank guard is also reportedly missing from duty and it is being estimated that the robbery was carried out during the night.
Police said they are investigating all aspects of the crime.
