Warner Bros. has released the official trailer for the highly anticipated sci-fi movie 'Blade Runner 2049' starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.

34 years since its prequel 'Blade Runner' (set in 2019) hit cinemas in 1982, the trailer begins with Gosling's character K walking behind a futuristic street cleaner in a dirty alley way as a recording of Rick Deckard (Ford) from the original movie plays over the top.

Suddenly K is in a dusty orange landscape as he approaches the mysterious ruin of a massive statue's head.

Then, the new lead finds himself inside a large abandoned building, before he's confronted by armed Deckard whose job is that of a blade runner, tasked with hunting down replicants, robots visually indistinguishable from adult humans.

"I had your job once. I was good at it," Deckard tells him.

K replies, "Things were simpler then."

The synopsis for the sequel reads, "Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos."

'Blade Runner 2049' releases in UK cinemas on October 6, 2017.
