Bollywood actor Salman Khan on Tuesday arrived at a Mumbai Sessions court where the re-trial of a 2002 hit-and-run case will be heard.

In September 2002, Khan was allegedly driving a Toyota Land Cruiser that ran over a group of people sleeping on the pavement outside a bakery in suburban Bandra. One person was killed and four others were injured in the accident.

The retrial had begun on April 29 with the partial deposition of one witness. On December 5 last year, the court had ordered a fresh trial after charges against the actor were enhanced to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

If the court convicts Khan, then he could be in jail for upto ten years.

The Bollywood actor was earlier tried for the lesser offence of causing death by negligence, which carries a punishment of upto two years in jail.

The case has gone from court to court with arguments centred around whether the actor was driving the car that day or not.
