Sammy says 'lots to learn from India' following 'humiliating' first Test loss

West Indies cricketer Darren Sammy has said that his side could learn a lot from India, particularly from the debut pair of Rohit Sharma and Mohammad Shami, who put up excellent performances in their team's victory.

According to TrinidadExpress.com, a dramatic batting collapse after tea under the pressure of high-quality swing bowling from Shami sent the Windies crashing to an innings and 51-run defeat in the first Test against the Indians on Friday at Eden Gardens here.

Sammy said that it was a disappointing loss for them and they were a much better team than how they played, adding that India still deserved the credit.

Sammy also said that the way Shami used the old ball and got the ball to reverse was quite impressive but their batsmen were not patient enough.

He added that he was one of the batsmen that did not place a high value on their wicket during the Test, particularly in the first innings, according to the report.

Sammy further said that he was disappointed with the way West Indies had bowled in the Test with the exception of off-spinner Shane Shillingford, whose six for 167 from 55 overs gave him five wickets in a Test for the fifth time in 11 Tests, the report mentioned.
