Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah along with Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday met ace Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni as part of the ruling party's 'Sampark for Samarthan' (Contact for Support) campaign.

Dhoni is currently on break as India is playing a Test series against England. Dhoni, who has returned from the longest format of the game, was a part of the ODI and T20I series.

In the recent past, under this initiative, the BJP president has met the likes of former cricketer Kapil Dev, singer Lata Mangeshkar, former Chief Justice of India R C Lahoti and actress Madhuri Dixit among various others to seek support for his party.

Launched in May this year by Shah, the 'Sampark for Samarthan' initiative was devised to generate awareness about the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government in the last four years.

Earlier, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore met retired cricketer Virender Sehwag, while Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met former cricketer VVS Laxman, Tennis player Sania Mirza and former Badminton player Pullela Gopichand.

In the run-up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Shah will reach out to 50 people personally with details of initiatives and achievements of the government, whereas each BJP worker is expected to contact at least 10 people.
