Former chief selector of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Sanath Jayasuriya has been charged by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for breaching its anti-corruption code.
As per an official statement, the 49-year-old was allegedly found to have breached Article 2.4.6 v of ICC anti-corruption code of conduct, which is related to failure or refusal, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), including failure to provide accurately and completely any information and/or documentation requested by the ACU as part of such investigation.
The former batsman is also facing charges of allegedly breaching Article 2.4.7 of the code of conduct, which means obstructing or delaying any investigation that may be carried out by the ACU, including concealing, tampering with or destroying any documentation or other information that may be relevant to that investigation and/or that may be evidence or may lead to the discovery of evidence of corrupt conduct under the anti-Corruption Code.
Jayasuriya has been given 14 days from 15 October 2018 to respond to the charges. Moreover, ICC has denied to comment on the charges against the former cricketer.
