Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza progressed through to the second round of the US Open mixed doubles event with her Croatian partner Ivan Dodig while Leander Paes and Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the men's doubles competition at Flushing Meadows.
The top-seeded Indo-Croatian pair overcame American duo of Donald Young and Taylor Townsend 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round clash that lasted just 62 minutes at the old Grandstand.
Meanwhile, the Indian challenge in the men's doubles event has ended with the elimination of Paes and Bopanna following their respective defeats.
While Paes and his German partner Andre Begemann lost the opening round match to French-Israeli pair of Stephane Robert and Dudi Sela 6-2 5-7 4-6 margin, Bopanna and his Danish partner Frederik Nielsen were trounced by American Brian Baker and Kiwi Marcus Daniell 2-6 6-7 (5-7) in the second round.
Later in the day, Bopanna also played his mixed doubles first round match with Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski, defeating American pair of Noah Rubin and Jamie Loeb 7-5 6-4.
