Following AIADMK general secretary V.K. Sasikala's conviction in the disproportionate assets case, DMK leader Tamilan Prasanna has hailed the Supreme Court's decision while stating that this is a victory for the people of Tamil Nadu.

"This is a victory for the people of Tamil Nadu and a victory of truth and the judicial system," Prasanna told ANI.

He also stated that both late AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa and Sasikala had accumulated public money by using the coveted Chief Minister's position.

"Jayalalithaa, Sasikala and two others made a wrong commitment, they encroached public money. They took the public money and covered it up from the state of Tamil Nadu using the position of the Chief Minister," he said.

Sasikala has been convicted in connection with a 19-year-old disproportionate assets case dating back to 1996.

The case posed a legal hurdle against her ambitions of taking over as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu

Sasikala has been ordered to serve the remainder of her four-year jail term and has also been barred from contesting elections or holding public office for ten years.

The verdict came in the backdrop of the ongoing power struggle between Sasikala and incumbent Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.
