Say 'no' to drugs bikers rally organised in Delhi

To fight the growing menace of drugs among youth, voluntary organisations took out a bike rally in national capital New Delhi on Sunday to create awareness regarding its ill effects on society.

The Pandit Ram Parsad Bismil Welfare Society (PRPBWS) and Youth Sikh collectively organised a bike rally asking people to "Say no to Drugs", in which hundreds of bikers participated.

The rally commenced from Talkatora stadium at 6 a.m. and reached Jantar Mantar around at 9 a.m., covering Talkatora, Patel Nagar, Tilak Nagar, Dhaula Kuan, JNU, 7RCR, and India Gate areas of the capital.

Advocate Sukhpreet Singh Malhotra, President of the PTPBWS, said: "Through this kind of efforts, we will always try to keep the Delhi-NCR region free of incidences of drug abuse, and in this role, youngsters will play an important part, as they take steps not to get addicted to sedative drugs and also educate the society at large about the menace of drugs abuse."

Malhotra said the use of drugs not only affects their health, but also induces them to indulge in criminal activities, and thus lower their stature in society. He urged youths to take a pledge to say 'no' to drugs and lead a safe and healthy life. Drug users faced serious health hazards, he said.

PRPBWS is a six-year-old non-governmental organisation which keeps on raising its voice against issues that go against national interests. It also keeps on organising public rallies and meetings for creating awareness on public interest issues among people.

Recently, Delhi police had seized party drug 'Meow Meow' worth Rs. 20 crore and had arrested eight people for their involvement in the smuggling of the illicit drug.

PRPBWS and Youth Sikh have collectively raised the voice against the use and consumption of drugs and also organised educative sessions such as today's bikers' rally to drive home the message against drug addiction.

The "Say no to Drugs" bikers rally was flagged off by famous wrestler-cum-actor Sangram Singh and famous Punjabi singer and actor Ranjeet Bawa.

The riders were also addressed by several senior BJP leaders, including the party's national secretary, R.P Singh, at Jantar Mantar.

Malhotra and Meepan Oberoy, Vice President of the PRPBWS, said that youths are indulging in drugs frequently because they see it as a status symbol. They join bad company and eventually become victims of it, which is very unfortunate.

Malhotra said, "According to National Crime Record Bureau, in 2014, there were 3,647 drug related suicides committed across India and this is really a very scary truth. We just need to spread awareness among our children and society and guide them to the right path, so that realising their responsibility towards nation, they can contribute in the development of the nation."

Recently, PRPBWS president Advocate Sukhpreet Singh Malhotra and Youth Sikh's President Sawarnjeet Singh collectively organized a successful bike rally against the insult of national flag.
