The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to entertain a plea seeking the quashing of an order that ruled that all Indian Premier League matches scheduled to be played in Maharashtra in May should be moved out in the wake of severe drought persisting in the state.

"It is better to move out the matches in wake of the drought," a bench headed by Chief Justice T S Thakur said while dismissing an appeal filed by the Maharashtra Cricket Association against the Bombay High Court order on the case.

Earlier this month, the High Court had ordered Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur franchises to host 13 of their IPL matches out of the state, including the final at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 29.

Subsequently, Pune was allowed to host the match between Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Supergiants on May 1 after the Board of Control for Cricket in India cited logistical and other difficulties in shifting the match to a different venue in a single day.
