SC reserves order for probe into IPL spot fixing case by Justice Mudgal Committee

The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order for a probe by the Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee into the Indian Premier League (IPL) betting and spot-fixing case, after the BCCI thoroughly opposed the apex court's decision.

"The Mudgal commission said that it is ready to investigate the case, but needs a period of four months to look over the matter. In the meantime, the commission has asked for the help of the retired director of CBI, M.L Sharma, three police officers as well as the state," said Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) Secretary, Aditya Verma.

"But the BCCI thoroughly opposed probes by the Mudgal commission into the case, due to which, in the end the judge reserved its order. Matter will be clear only once the order comes,"

The apex court had earlier rejected the Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) proposed three-member investigative panel to look into allegations of corruption in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The SC had instead asked the Mudgal Committee to investigate 13 players, who were named in its report. The apex court had given time till 2 p.m. Tuesday for the committee to respond to its suggestion.

The BCCI had proposed the names of former Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) director R.K. Raghavan, former high court judge J.N. Patel and former Indian cricket captain Ravi Shastri as the panel members investigating the corruption in IPL.

The decision to form the probe panel was made after the Supreme Court of India urged the BCCI to probe spot-fixing claims against 13 players and officials.
