Schalke down 10-man Basel to reach last 16 in Champions League

Schalke has confirmed their place in the Champions League's knock-out phase with a 2-0 home win against 10-man FC Basel to finish second in Group E behind Chelsea.

According to Sport24, goals after the break by Germany's Julian Draxler and a strange second from Cameroon defender Joel Matip advanced Schalke to last 16 of the Champions League.

Schalke took advantage of questionable refereeing decisions, when Basel defender Ivan Ivanov was sent off in the 31st by referee Paolo Tagliavento, the report added.
