A joint operation by the Andhra Pradesh Police and the Tamil Nadu Police resulted in the arrest of five top Maoist leaders from the Karumathampatti village of the Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu.

The two forces were working on information gleaned by Vishaka Raja Reddy, an Andhra Pradesh Maoist leader who had been arrested earlier this week.

The police were successful in apprehending Rupesh, one of the most wanted Maoist leaders in Kerala, along with his wife Shiny. They also apprehended Easwaran from Andhra Pradesh and Kannan from Tamil Nadu.

Further investigation is underway.
