Security personnel destroy Maoists camps in Odisha, recover arms and ammunitions

Paramilitary, Border Security Force (BSF), along with the police destroyed a Maoist camps in Odisha along central Chhattisgarh state border and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during a joint combing operation.

Inspector General (IG), BSF, Yeswant Kumar Jethwa, revealed that during the joint combing operation by the local police, BSF, District Voluntary Force (DVF) and Special Operation Group (SOG), a large-sized Maoist camps have been destroyed.

"Today we have closed two-day combing operation. Police team of Nabarangpur and BSF (Border Security Force) were involved in this operation. The operation was carried out between Nabarangpur district and Chhattisgarh border area which falls under Raipur police station," said Jethwa.

The team seized one 8mm pistol, solar plate, five kilograms gun powder, eight landmines, three SBML guns and 70 detonators from the Maoists camp.

"We have destroyed the camps and recovered eight landmines, three guns, one pistol, gun powder, detonators, wire and other items. Some recovered items have been destroyed," added Jethwa.

Jethwa said that around 50 Maoists managed to escape after exchange of fire with the security forces. He said there were no reports of casualties from either side.
