Serena Williams and Andy Murray booked their place in the quarter-finals of the US Open with thumping straight-sets victories in their respective events at Flushing Meadows on Tuesday.
Serena recorded her 308th Grand Slam win, passing Roger Federer's all-time record in the Open Era with a 6-2,6-3 win over Russia's Yaroslava Shvedova in the fourth-round contest that lasted for more than an hour.
Meanwhile, Murray strolled into his sixth US Open quarter-final after sweeping aside Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the men's singles encounter that lasted two hours at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
World number one Serena will next face Simona Halep while second-seed Murray will tangle with Japanese Kei Nishikori, who defeated Croatian Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4), for a place in the semi-finals.
In another men's singles event, third-seed Stan Wawrinka also stormed into the last eight round after battling past Ukraine's Illya Marchenko 6-4, 6-1, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3.
The French player, a semi-finalist in 2013 and 2015, will take on 2009 champion Juan Martin del Potro for a place in the last-four.
