The coach of American tennis ace Serena Williams has hailed her motivation for work as the main reason behind her impressive comeback to the sport after sinking to 175 in world and losing in the 2012 French Open first round.

The indomitable figurehead of women's tennis had been humiliated and cowed out of the 2012 French Open in the first round by an unheralded and unseeded opponent in the form of Virginie Razzano and hit one of the biggest troughs in her career after sinking to 175 in the world rankings following injury-blighted few seasons.

However, CNN reports that Williams' desire to clamber back to the top was insatiable and she found the necessary help in the shape of her coach Patrick Mouratoglou, following which she was restored as the preeminent female player of her generation, culminating in her most successful season at the age of 32

However, Mouratoglou said that Williams' motivation for work was her biggest inspiration despite her age, adding that her humbling in the 2012 French Open paved the way for this current, imperious streak.

The report mentioned that Williams has won 16 titles in 16 months, with a record of 95 victories and five defeats since teaming up with Mouratoglou.

Stating that his role is to help Williams reduce the chances to lose to the strict minimum, Mouratoglou said that the chances of her losing now are much smaller than in the past and rejected suggestions that Williams is showing any signs of slowing despite being 32.

Hailing Williams as a real champion, Mouratoglou further said that the quality of the game Williams is able to play at her age shows how much her game has evolved from most of the players, adding that it is her desire to take responsibility that makes her so unique.
