Seven dead, several missing after boat sinks in Brazil

The Brazilian authorities have confirmed that at least seven persons were killed and several others were missing in a boat accident that happened late Tuesday night (local time).

The boat sank in the Brazilian Amazon region, confirmed the local authorities on Wednesday.

The boat was reportedly carrying 70 persons out of which 25 made it to the shore, reports said.

The boat was travelling from Santarem and was heading to Vitoria do Xingu, reports said.

The cause of the tragedy was not immediately clear.
