Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain on Monday criticized the Congress for not being able to maintain order in Parliament, after both Houses were adjourned prematurely on the first day of the Monsoon Session earlier today.
Due to uproar against Telangana and demand for the creation of Bodoland, the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha were adjourned on Monday.
"The Congress is responsible for wasting the time of the House today. The BJP peacefully sat throughout the Parliamentary session and raised important questions before the House. However, because of the Congress MPs' behaviour in the Lok Sabha today the House was adjourned prematurely. ... The Congress should first control their members and then respond to the opposition. The whole country is seeing how the Congress has wasted the time of the House, like it has done before," Hussain said here at a press conference.
Hussain also criticized the Congress for not being open to discussions before making a democratic decision.
"It is the responsibility of the ruling party to take the opposition into confidence and ensure that the Parliamentary sessions are not adjourned. The Congress instead wants to run away from discussions. They don't want to take the trouble to respond to the Opposition's concerns and questions. ... Moreover, outside Parliament they claim that the Opposition is not allowing Parliament to function," Hussain said.
Hussain also added that the BJP would not accept any Bill without Parliamentary debate and discussion.
"The Bharatiya Janata Party has taken a decision to not let any Bill pass in the midst of Parliamentary ruckus and commotion. ... The BJP's view is that the ruling party should bring the House in order and then have discussions. We are open to any discussion. ...If the Government thinks that it will be able to pass a Bill amidst the commotion of the House and say that it has a Parliamentary stamp on it, we will not accept it," Hussain added.
The Lok Sabha was adjourned just after 3 p.m. after some members shouted slogans in the Well of the House for a united Andhra Pradesh, while another group made a demand for the creation of Bodoland as a separate state.
On July 30, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) had announced their decision to carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh.
After the decision to carve out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh was made public, the demand for creation of other states has grown louder throughout the country. There have been demands and protests to divide Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Assam and West Bengal.
