The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Government is likely to introduce pro-people initiatives in this year's budget to prove that the nation's economy has improved in the last two years.

According to the Dawn, while the finance ministry is opposing the move, a federal cabinet member has said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has sought the introduction of low-cost housing, interest-free loans in the agriculture sector and revision of pay-scales of government employees in the federal budget to be presented this week.

The minister quoted Sharif, as saying that if the government claimed improvement in the economic sector because of its efforts during the last two years, then the reliability of the claim should be made visible by extending profits of this growth to the people.

He said that Sharif wanted to introduce an interest-free loan scheme for small growers, since there was no worthwhile initiative taken in the agriculture sector.

During his previous tenure also, Sharif had introduced the Prime Minister's Housing Scheme, offering flats to the people through

balloting.
