One of the three terrorists killed in Saturday's Shopian encounter has been identified as Hizbul Mujahideen's operational commander - Yasin Yatoo.

Hizbul Mujahideen's topmost commander in Kashmir, Mehmood Ghaznavi, was also killed in a gun fight that started yesterday evening at Shopian.

The Indian Army on Sunday paid homage to two of its soldiers, who were martyred in yesterday's Shopian encounter in Kashmir.

The encounter had been going on since yesterday evening where two security personnel had lost their lives.

Chinar Corps Commander Lt. Gen. J.S. Sandhu, along with officials from all ranks, paid rich tributes to Sep. Sumedh Waman and Sep. Ilayaraja P.

Sep. Sumedh Waman hailed from Lonagra village in Akola, Maharashtra and joined the Army in 2011. He is survived by his parents, brother and sister.

Sep. Ilayaraja P. was from Kandani village in the Sivagangai district of Tamil Nadu. He joined the Army in 2012 and is survived by his parents, wife and sister.

The mortal remains of the martyrs were flown for last rites to their native places, where they would be laid to rest with full military honours.
