Union Law Minister, Kapil Sibal, on Tuesday expressed shock over Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi's blatant audacity to challenge the Election Commission to file an FIR against him.

"I am very surprised about this fact that a prime minister aspirant says that the Election Commission can go ahead and file an FIR against him. It is a sheer threat; if I try to bring the similarity with his earlier comments against Lyngdoh, then also, he made a similar remark, where he asked Lyngdoh to take instructions from someone else. That's why I say it is unfortunate on the part of this country that a person like him (Modi), who is even aspiring to become as prime minister, says all of this," Sibal said in the press conference.
"We have already registered our complaint with the Election Commission. We have requested them to take strict action against him. We have also told what kind of statements he has given in West Bengal," Sibal added.
While addressing a crowd in Bhadohi, Modi on Sunday blamed the Election Commission for turning a blind eye towards booth rigging in many parts of UP, Bihar and West Bengal, and demanded the deployment of central paramilitary forces at booths in the last two phases of the LS polls. He even challenged the EC to lodge an FIR against him if his allegation was offensive.
Modi said the same in a rally in Asansol that the Election Commission of India has failed to stop poll rigging and violence in the country and added that they should act more responsibly.
"The Election Commission has failed to stop poll rigging and violence in some parts of the country, and therefore I would like to request EC to handle things responsibly," said Modi.
"If the Election Commission feels bad about what I am saying, they are free to lodge a case against me again, but they must handle polls in an unbiased way," he had said.
