Sindh Inspector General (IG) Allah Dino Khawaja, who was sent on a forced leave, is likely to resume charge on January 3.
This comes as the Sindh Government was forced to reconsider its decision after criticism from civil society and the court's stay order.
"I will rejoin the office after completion of my 15-day-long vacation that ends on January 2", The Express Tribune quoted Khawaja, as saying.
According to official sources, Khawaja was sent on a forced leave by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led Sindh Government over the issue of recruitments and appointments in the police.
He was sent on leave days ahead of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari's arrival.
The appointment of a new IG is still undecided by the Sindh Government and also it has failed to send any names for the post to the federal government.
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Saeed Ghani clarified that they have not removed the IG, adding he has gone on leave.
He also dismissed rumours that the PPP leadership was annoyed with the IG over sugarcane issues.
"The appointment of the IG is the Sindh government's prerogative. One should not panic about it," said Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah's Information Advisor Maula Buksh Chandio.
