Veteran politician MLA Yumkham Erabot Singh is likely to resign from the Congress party today.

Thousands of workers and supporters of Singh thronged his residence at Khurai and conducted a meeting, even as the MLA was inside his residence.

After the meeting, the workers took out a motor car rally through the Wankhei Assembly Constituency.

The sitting MLA told ANI that owing to strong pressure from his workers and supporters, he has decided to listen to them and leave the party.

It is learnt that supporters have been urging their MLA to resign from the Congress Party since Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh has not been treating him with respect.

Informed sources said that BJP state leaders have been discussing the possibility of accepting Erabot into the party if he applies for entry.

Sources said that a team of BJP leaders called on the state Governor, Najma Heptullah today. However, it is yet to be officially confirmed whether their meeting concerned the impending resignation of Singh from the Congress party.

Sources also informed that the BJP central leaders had called the state party leaders this afternoon and instructed them to consider Singh's case seriously.
