SMU-DE Recognized as India's Best University for Distance Learning

Sikkim Manipal University, Directorate of Distance Education (SMU-DE), won ASSOCHAM's 'Best University in Distance/Open Learning' award as part of the ASSOCHAM (The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry) Awards of Excellence in Education, 2014.

Dr. Shivram Krishnan, Dean Academics, HoD of Arts, Humanities, Commerce and Vocational Science, SMU-DE received the award from noted Rajya Sabha MP, Dr. Karan Singh, at a ceremony held in New Delhi.

ASSOCHAM, a prominent Industry body, has been recognizing universities and institutes for best practices in delivering quality education in India, and honouring those who have contributed significantly in improving excellence in education, innovation, research and development in the country.

The nominated educational institutes were evaluated on the basis of their innovation, scalability, their ability to overcome challenges and positively contribute to the progress of their students.

On receiving the award, Dr Shivram Krishnan, said, "It is a great honour to be recognized by ASSOCHAM for our innovation in content delivery, scalability in reaching out to lakhs of students and overcoming geographical challenges.

This award from ASSOCHAM, a representation of corporates reiterates the value SMUDE is adding to talent in the country. We are constantly improvising our teaching methodologies to keep pace with student needs and evolving technologies in the field of education.

SMU-DE is one of the few Distance Education Universities who actively provide placement opportunities to their students. Today its students work across multiple sectors like IT, ITES, TELECOM, BFSI among others.
