While releasing its first ever transparency report, Snapchat announced that it has cut-off all third-party applications from accessing its data, in a bid to show its users that it takes their privacy seriously.
Steven Levy told Backchannel that the company had been working for months to make it harder for third-party apps to access data on its app and finally they have managed to close the hole entirely, The Verge reported.
The recent restrictions meant that Windows phone users too would not be able to use any of the third-party apps they relied on to use Snapchat so far.
Tim Sehn from Snapchat said that the firm considered it a competitive advantage to care for their users' privacy and security.
The company did so because of last year's mishap, in which few developers had hacked ways to develop apps that supported Snapchat's features, leaking thousands of supposedly private user photos.
Snapchat also released its first-ever transparency report which had the details of all data requests the company received from governments around the world.
