A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Tuesday acquitted Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and former Gujarat home minister Amit Shah in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case.

Sohrabuddin Sheikh's brother Rubabuddin, however, seemed to be disappointed with the court's decision and said that Shah had been saved because of the Centre's interference in this case.

"The CBI has been used, Amit Shah has been saved with pressure from high up. This is all because of Central Government's interference, will go to the High Court," Rubabuddin said.

Meanwhile, the BJP hailed Shah's acquittal, saying the charges against him were politically motivated.

"We are elated that truth has prevailed," BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said.

Sheikh and his wife Kauser Bi were allegedly abducted by the Gujarat's Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) from Hyderabad and killed in a fake encounter near Gandhinagar in November 2005.

The case was first being heard in Ahmedabad and was later shifted to Mumbai.
