Expressing shock and grief over the untimely demise of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief Anjan Dutta, Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Thursday said that not only the state, but the entire grand old party had lost a leader committed to the people.
"Not only the Assam state Congress, but the entire Congress Party had lost a leader committed to the people," Gandhi said in a statement while extending her condolences to his wife and daughters.
Dutta, 64, who had been undergoing treatment at the AIIMS for the past one month, passed away this morning.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had earlier visited AIIMS to inquire about Dutta's health.
Dutta, who was three times MLA from the Amguri Constituency, had also served as the president of the Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee and the chairman of the North East Youth Congress Co-ordination Committee.
