Union Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday congratulated the Indian cricket team for winning the World Cup group stage match against Ireland in Hamilton by eight wickets.
"Heartiest congratulations to India. We are sure they will come back with the World Cup. Win against Ireland has once again proved India's consistently fine performance at tournament. It is a matter of pride for all Indians," Sonowal said.
Earlier in the day, India beat Ireland by eight wickets to register their fifth consecutive win at the World Cup 2015.
The Irish team were all out for 259 runs in 49 overs after they won the toss and chose to bat. In reply, India chased down the score in 36.5 overs with the loss of just two wickets.
Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer for India with his valiant knock of 100. This is the southpaw's second century in the tournament.
