Sonowal to lay foundation stone of Delhi Youth Training Centre

Minister of State (independent charge) for Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, Youth Affairs and Sports, Sarbananda Sonowal, will lay the foundation stone of a youth training centre at a function to be held here on September 13.

He will also be inaugurating the newly-constructed office building of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) of Delhi zone and address the 'Special Youth Convention' at the function.

Eminent sportspersons, including Mary Kom, Arunima Sinha and Vijendra Singh, are expected to attend the function as guest of honour along with India's world champion wrestler Sushil Kumar.

Secretary of Department of Youth Affairs, Rajeev Gupta, will preside over the function as about 2,000 youths from different districts of Delhi will take part in the convention.

The focus of the function would be to set active partnership in ambitious programmes announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for next five years for NYKS.

In this direction, NYKS intends to promote the 'Swatch Bharat Abhiyan' by generating awareness on cleanliness, personal hygiene and construction of 40 lakh toilets with the cost of Rs 4,000 crore under Nirmal Bharat Scheme.

They also plan to popularize Prime Minister's 'Jan Dhan Yojna' and educate, mobilize and motivate 50 lakh rural youth to open bank accounts, generate awareness and motivate five lakh rural youth to get skill training for employment and self-employment venture in their areas and actively participate in enhancing the productivity of the country.

Another goal area is to establish 'Youth Clubs' and 'Mahila Mandal' in each and every uncovered villages of the country with membership of two crores.

Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), the host of this function, is an autonomous body of Department of Youth Affairs. It is a unique organization and a wonderful concept for rural youth development and empowerment.

It is one of the largest youth organizations of its kind in the world. The core strength of NYKS is a network of 2.74 lakh village level youth clubs in nearly all the districts of India with a membership of about 80 lakh youth in the age group of 13-35 years.
