Sony has reportedly sold more than one million units of its latest gaming console PlayStation 4 on the first day of going on sale in the US and Canada.

Sony had earlier revealed that there were about a million of PS4s which were preordered before the launch day.

According to AllThingsD, the sales would drive the electronic manufacturer to meet its year-end goal of three million units sold worldwide, compared to its 2006 sales of the previous version of the flagship product that faced manufacturing problems and did not reach expected sales.

However, some early adopters have reported issues with the latest PlayStation 4 related to overheating and TV connectivity, which were faced by rival Microsoft's Xbox 360 console users too.

The report said that since the launch on Friday last week, the company line has been that 0.4 percent of the consoles amounting to 4,000 out of a million are potentially defective.
