Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday instructed his department secretary and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to submit a report on the cause of National Hockey Coach Terry Walsh tendering his resignation.

"I have instructed my Secretary (Sports) and Director General SAI (Jiji Thomson) to examine the cause of resignation (by Terry Walsh) and asking both of them to submit a report within 24 hours," Sonowal told ANI here.

Earlier in the day, the national hockey coach announced his resignation, citing the bureaucracy present in Indian sport.

"The decision making processes that take place in the bureaucracy of Indian sport is not centred around any particular group, and that includes players, Sports Authority of India (SAI) and Hockey India. This has caused me great difficulty," Walsh said.alsh also added that family commitments have also played a part in his resignation.

Under the Australian's guidance, the Indian men's hockey team won gold in the recently held Asian Games in Incheon, thereby qualifying for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
