The Sri Lankan Government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a two million US dollars grant agreement to finance the relief efforts in the country following the recent floods and landslides, which caused mass destruction.
"Considering the scope of the damage in Sri Lanka and the government's constrained resources, it is critical that we assist the people of Sri Lanka in this time of urgent need," Colombo Page quoted Sri Widowati, Country Director of the Sri Lanka Resident Mission, as saying.
The two million US dollars is being provided to the government as a grant under the ADB's Asia Pacific Disaster Response Fund to purchase emergency relief materials and supplies and help restore community services, the ADB said in a statement.
Tropical storm Roanu struck Sri Lanka on May 15, causing severe flooding and numerous landslides, affecting 25 districts.
