Steve Martin to be honored with AFI's life achievement award

Steve Martin is set to receive the American Film Institute's 43rd life achievement award in 2015, it has been reported.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Howard Stringer, chair of AFI's board of trustees, announced that the accolade will be presented to the 69-year-old actor on June 4 at a gala tribute in Los Angeles that will be broadcasted on TNT.

Now a highly awarded actor, comedian, author, playwright, screenwriter, producer and musician, Martin first came to fame as a notable stand-up act. He won an Emmy for his work writing for The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour in 1969 and spent the '70s delivering laughs via comedy essays and albums as well as memorable appearances on Saturday Night Live and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

He also has released four comedy albums between 1977 and 1981, including the Grammy winners Let's Get Small and A Wild and Crazy Guy, and wrote his first book in 1977, Cruel Shoes.
