Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna has received an encouraging response in Himachal Pradesh with more than 56, 000 people having joined the scheme since its launch two months back.
The postal department has set a target of opening three lakh accounts under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojna during the current financial year in Himachal Pradesh.
Chief Post Master General of Himachal Pradesh, Major General A.K. Shorrie, said that around Rs. 10 crore has been deposited under the scheme during the last two months in the state.
The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the aim of improving the welfare of girl child children.
Under the scheme, an account can be opened for the girl child below the age of 10 years by her parent or guardian in any post office or authorised bank branch.
