Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here on Saturday and urged her to request Prime Minister Narendra Modi to raise the issue of recent attacks on the Sikh community in the US during his meeting with President Barack Obama.
During the meeting, Badal was accompanied by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MPs.
"We have requested that the issue of attacks on the Sikh community is taken up by the Prime Minister when he meets with US President Barack Obama during his US visit," said Badal.
"The second issue that we discussed was that of Sikhs in Afghanistan who are facing lots of problems. We have also requested the government to look into Sikhs who are trapped in Iraq," he added.
Badal further said that the External Affairs Minister gave them a positive response.
