Sushma Swaraj to address UNGA

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj will address the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) today.

Earlier, Swaraj participated in a meet of foreign ministers from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), where they agreed that India should go ahead with its proposed SAARC satellite project, even if all SAARC nations do not become a part of it.

However, India has sought early convergence of the member states to provide details regarding their requirement for the SAARC satellite.

Besides, the minister held four bilateral and four multilateral discussions with leaders of various countries and groups.

Hosting a meeting of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) countries, Swaraj called for cooperation with CARICOM on text-based negotiations for the UN Security Council Reform.

She also held bilateral discussion with her counterparts from Maldives, Sri Lanka and Syria, and participated in a meeting of the India-Gulf Cooperation Council here, where they discussed security issues, including the threat posed by international terrorism.

Swaraj stressed on the need for early finalisation of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) at the UN.
