Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday claimed that the Centre has done nothing wrong in finalising the appointment of former Chief Justice of India (CJI) P Sathasivam for the post of Kerala Governor.

Responding to differences within the Congress on Sathasivam's appointment, Swamy told ANI, " Rangathan Mishra, who was the Chief Justice, was sent to the Parliament as a member of the Congress Party, not even as a nominated member. The CPI (M) sent a commander-in-chief in the Army to Parliament. This has been happening. In what way, can we bar someone after he has retired from holding any post, unless there is a conflict of interest. Where is the conflict of interest? I see nothing wrong in this appointment."

The Congress has reportedly questioned the government's move to appoint Sathasivam as the Kerala Governor, wondering if the Centre was pleased with his judgement in the case against BJP President Amit Shah.

Sheila Dikshit had last month submitted her resignation as the Kerala Governor. Her resignation followed after a number of governors also stepped aside in a similar manner after being nudged by the BJP-led NDA government.

Dikshit, who led the Congress to a humiliating defeat in last year's Delhi assembly polls, was appointed the Governor of Kerala on March 4 this year.
