Afghan Taliban is reportedly "confident of victory" over Nato-led foreign combat forces and claimed that the outfit is already in control of large areas of the nation.
Deeming the presidential elections as "fake", Zabiullah Mujahed, the spokesperson for the Afghan Taliban denied any ties with candidates.
Mujahed confirmed the group's presence in remote areas and claimed that foreign troops were scared to step out of their bases, the BBC reported.
The spokesperson said that if the group returns to power, things will go back to the way it was before, with no moderation in the extreme methods adopted by the government to punish law-breakers.
While the combat operations in the region have come to an end with most Nato-led (Isaf) foreign combat forces leaving the country post handing over control to the Afghan army, British army General Sir Peter Wall said that "vast swathes" of Helmand province, operated by UK troops were under Taliban control.
The Nato-led forces had handed security control to Afghan forces in 2013. However, 97,000 soldiers are still present in the region, out of which, 68,000 are Americans.
