Expressing anger over the case concerning national shooter Tara Sahdev, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists staged a demonstration here on Monday and demanded the arrest of her husband.

The irate VHP cadres attacked all shops that were opened today during their protest. The VHP cadres, who had called for a shutdown in Ranchi today, also stopped trucks and buses entering the city from outside.

"What has happened today is not about one woman, it can happen to anyone. We demand the arrest of Tara Sahdev's husband Ranjit Kumar Kohli. If he is not arrested then it is not only an insult to her, it is an insult of all the women of this country," said Kiran Devi, president of the Nari Sena, the VHP's women' wing.

A police official deployed on duty at the protest site, however, said the case is being investigated at a rapid pace.

"We are still investigating the case and are on the lookout for Kohli. As soon as we locate him, we will arrest him. We know of his owning three flats, all of which have been sealed," he said.

He added that 25 to 30 protestors have been arrested.

Sahdev married Kohli in July. He allegedly concealed his true identity and tortured and assaulted her for refusing to convert to Islam.
