Teesta Setalvad bail rejected due to non- cooperation with agencies: Additional Advocate General

Gujarat Additional Advocate General Prakash Jani on Thursday said the anticipatory bail sought by activist Teesta Setalvad, who is accused of misappropriating public funds, was rejected due to her non-cooperation with the concerned investigative agencies.

"The Gujarat High Court today rejected the anticipatory bail petition by Teesta Setalvad. The High Court has reasoned that public funds have been misappropriated and misused for personal use and by the conduct of the petitioner indicates that she has not cooperated with investigative agencies," Jani told the media.

"The funds collected for the poor have been used for personal use. At present, the funds misappropriated seem to be in the region of Rs. eight crore," he added.

Setalwad's husband Javed Anand and Tanvir Jafri, son of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri (who was killed in the 2002 Gujarat riots) have also been accused but have reportedly been granted bail.

An FIR had reportedly been lodged last year against three for allegedly misappropriating funds meant for a museum for the victims of the riots.
