Terror and talks cannot go together: Venkaiah Naidu

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Friday issued a strong warning to the UPA-led government that there should be no question of talks with Pakistan till incidents like the ambushed attack on Indian Army soldiers on Tuesday morning in Poonch District prevail along the Line of Control (LoC) continued.

"I will like to tell the Government of India, the way in which they are dealing with the Pakistani's aggression and killing our jawans in a casual manner is not at all in the interest of the country. ... Salman Khurshid, please try and understand that terror and talks cannot go together-this should be the message to Pakistan," Naidu said here.

Urging the Central Government to send a strong message to Paksitan on the most recent killing of five Indian jawans by the Pakistan Army, Naidu said that talks should be presently suspended.

"The Government must send a signal to Pakistan. Pakistan made it a state policy aiding, abetting, funding (and) training terrorists. This is continuously happening. So, somewhere there must be some cut-off. Then, we must send a strong signal and message to Pakistan that terror and talks cannot go together-that is one way of sending the message," Naidu added.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was scheduled to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York in September. However, the talks have been put in doubt after the ambush on Indian patrolling soldiers along the LoC, which left five jawans killed and one injured on Tuesday morning in the Poonch District of Jammu and Kashmir.

Though Nawaz Sharif said that he looks forward to talks with Dr. Manmohan Singh, after expressing sadness on the LoC killings, the UPA-led government have not yet taken a decision regarding pursuing talks with Pakistan.

Salman Khurshid kept Islamabad guessing on Thursday saying, ""It should be welcome, but we have to proceed with caution."

Meanwhile, Pakistan has denied the involvement of its troops in the August 6 incident along the LoC.
