After bagging gold in the men's freestyle 74kg category of the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games, two-time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar said that the medal doesn't only belong to him, but the entire team and coaches who had put in efforts in his preparation.
Playing his third consecutive Commonwealth Games final, a dominant Sushil hammered his South African opponent Johannes Botha 10-0 in the finals of the men's freestyle 74 kg category at the Carrara Sports Arena to clinch his third consecutive CWG gold.
Speaking to the reporters following the victory, an ecstatic Sushil thanked his coaches and entire family for the support they had shown in him.
"This medal doesn't only belong to me, but the entire team who had put in efforts in preparing him. I want to thank my coaches for giving me proper training which is why I have managed to perform well here. I also want to thank my family and friends. I just want everyone's blessings so that I can once again prepare myself well and clinch a medal for the country in the next edition," he said.
Sushil, the only Indian sportsperson to have two Olympic medals to his name, had earlier picked gold in the now disbanded 66kg category at the 2010 New Delhi edition, before clinching the same at the 2014 CWG in Glasgow in 74kg category.
India are currently standing at the third spot with 29 medals, including 14 gold, six silver and nine bronze medals in the Games.
