Tibetan PM-in-exile blames Chinese poultry accident on poor supervision

Tibetan Prime Minister-in-exile Lobsang Sangay has blamed the recent Chinese poultry and mining accidents on poor level of supervision.

Recently, an explosion had occurred at a Chinese poultry plant in Dehui in northeast China's Jilin province. Flammable construction materials and insufficient fire prevention equipment contributed to the disaster, which led to the death of at least 120 people, and left more than 70 injured.

Talking to media here, Sangay said lack of supervision had led to the disastrous failure of such model projects.

"What the media project it to be, model mining or model poultry farm are meeting with accidents that reflects what kind of supervision they have and unfortunately Chinese in general and Tibetans in particular are suffering at environmental level, cultural level and social level and hence the continued repression is the reason for Tibetan resentment until now which ought to end and we have to find a peaceful solution through dialogue," said Lobsang.

The explosion cut electricity and sent plumes of black smoke through the prefabricated workers' building that contained a maze of complicated and narrow hallways, making it difficult for workers to escape.

More than 300 workers were in the plant at Dehui on June 3, when employees said they heard a bang and then saw smoke, adding that an ammonia gas leak could have caused the explosion.
