A top Islamic Hamas leader was critically wounded on Tuesday when he accidentally fired a gunshot from his gun which hit his head.
According to a Hamas spokesperson, Fawzi Barhoum, who was quoted by Xinhua, said in an e-mailed press statement: " Our leader Emad Alami is in critical condition after he was hit by a gunshot from his personal pistol while he was checking it".
Alami was the Hamas ambassador to Iran during the 1990s.
When he returned back to Gaza Strip in 2011, he served as the deputy chief and also as the vice-chairman of the Hamas.
The leader lost his right leg when a missile was struck by the Israeli forces in an underground tunnel while he went hiding in 2014.
The Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organisation by Israel, the United States, the United Nations and few other countries.
