All 100 top-ranked men and 99 of the top women are on course to play the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the year, in January.

Craig Tiley, Tennis Australia chief executive, said that the field for the tournament beginning Jan 19 was one of the deepest and strongest in the Grand Slam event's history, Sport24 reported.

He further said that the only absentee from the women's draw was 58th ranked Petra Cetkovska of Czech Republic on account of a hip injury.

In addition to 16 male and 12 female qualifiers, eight wild-card entrants will be included in both the men's and women's draw.
