The main aim of the BrahMos is that it is customer oriented and the manufacturing track record of the Indo-Russian collaboration is second to none, said Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, Founder Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the BrahMos Aerospace.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch of his book titled "The Path Unexplored", the forward of which has been written by former president A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Dr. Pillai said the book describes the journey of the BrahMos, which has made India a world leader in missile technology in the shortest possible time through a novel collaborative effort with the Russian Government.
The 254-page ten chapter book, published by The Pentagon Press, traces the history of the development of the BrahMos, right from its inception, through its passage across unchartered territory, its various stages of momentum and capability to the point of it becoming a self-reliant military industrial complex.
As Dr. Kalam says in a forward to the book, the BrahMos signifies the great friendship and trust that exists at various levels between India and Russia, and particularly in the field of high technology.
An audio-video presentation of the joint venture between NPOM and DRDO to make BrahMos, reveals how it has become the envy of the world since 1995.
Dr. Pillai claimed that the idea behind the supersonic cruise missile taking shape in India's defence psyche came after witnessing the United States deploy cruise missiles like the Tomahawk during the two Gulf Wars against Iraq, and the success that they achieved with minimum loss.
Looking visibly satisfied over the missiles acceptance by India's defence forces be it land, air and sea, Dr. Pillai also shed light on how the missile faced constant technological challenges to improve itself as per demand, and how all the parameters were met.
He said the BrahMos has the unique distinction of being a government-owned private operated (GOPO) company, getting orders worth USD 6 billion.
He, however, rued the fact that the BrahMos is yet to achieve its full potential on the export front.
The eminent scientist also shed light on the next level of technological breakthrough which BrahMos plans to achieve, that is to build a hypersonic missile similar to the mythological Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Krishna, a feat no country has achieved. (ANI)
