Ahead of the 72nd Independence Day on August 15, security has been beefed up across the country, with special traffic arrangements and restrictions imposed in the national capital starting Monday.
To maintain vigil, the Delhi police has installed additional CCTV cameras, especially at major markets of the national capital.
"Keeping in mind the high footfall in Lajpat Nagar central market and Nehru place market, we have made all security arrangements ahead of Independence Day," DCP Chinmoy Biswal (south-east) told ANI.
"To increase the security, we have put up extra 45 CCTV cameras. These cameras are being monitored live by the police through the control room to keep a check on any suspicious activity," he added.
In Delhi, traffic restrictions will be in place for the Independence Day function at the Red Fort and on its full dress rehearsal tomorrow. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has said parking facilities will not be available at its stations.
Half-a-dozen roads will remain closed while traffic will be diverted on some roads on these days, police said.
Parking facilities will also remain unavailable at metro stations in Delhi from 6 am on August 14 till 2 pm on August 15 in view of the security arrangements on Independence Day.
Security has also been tightened at other major points in various states, including Assam and Punjab.
In Amritsar, police are undertaking stringent security check at railway stations, bus stands, and hotels. However, the police confirmed that no specific inputs have been received so far.
