Trump calls himself victim of 'single greatest witch hunt'

President Donald Trump has described the appointment of a former FBI director to investigate alleged ties between his campaign team and Russia during the 2016 presidential election as the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history.

"This is the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!" Trump tweeted.

President Trump added that there was never a special counsel appointed for illegal acts that took place during Hillary Clinton's campaign or the Obama Administration.

"With all of the illegal acts that took place in the Clinton campaign & Obama Administration, there was never a special councel appointed!" Trump said in a tweet.

The Justice Department has appointment Robert Mueller, as a special counsel to lead the federal investigation into the Trump campaign links with Moscow to sway the 2016 election.

Trump claimed on Wednesday that "no politician in history" has been "treated worse" than him.

"Look at the way I've been treated lately, especially by the media. No politician in history - and I say this with great surety - has been treated worse or more unfairly," CNN quoted Trump as saying to the graduates of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy during a commencement address

The comments were Trump's first since reports emerged that he asked sacked FBI Director James Comey in February to drop his probe of former national security adviser Michael Flynn over his Russia links.

"You will find that things happen to you that you do not deserve and that are not always warranted. But you have to put your head down and fight, fight, fight. Never, ever, ever give up. Things will work out just fine," he added.

Trump said that the attitude is a big reason why he won the November election.
