United States President Donald Trump's trade adviser Peter Navarro has apologized for saying there was a "special place in hell" for Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

As per media reports, Navarro issued an apology for the remarks that he made after Trudeau refused to amend the set trade tariffs.

He said in a press conference that it was his mistake that he used such a language as he wanted to send an important message to the G7 members.

Earlier on Sunday, the last day of the G7 summit, Navarro had said, "There's a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad faith diplomacy with President Donald J. Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door."

This came after Trudeau had said that Canada would "move forward with retaliatory measures" starting from July 1 in response to Trump's decision to impose 25 percent trade tariffs on aluminum and steel on its closest allies Canada, Mexico, and the European Union.

Trump had made similar remarks, accusing Trudeau of acting "meek and mild" during talks, before their press conference.

"PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, "US Tariffs were kind of insulting" and he "will not be pushed around." Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!" Trump tweeted.

Trump's economic adviser Larry Kudlow had also accused Trudeau of having "stabbed us in the back" and engaging in a "sophomoric, political stunt for domestic consumption.
