United States President Donald Trump, in a series of tweets, threw flak at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) saying "its reputation is in tatters" and vowing to bring it "back to greatness".
"After years of Comey, with the phony and dishonest Clinton investigation (and more), running the FBI, its reputation is in Tatters - worst in History! But fear not, we will bring it back to greatness," he posted.
Trump also tweeted earlier: "Tainted (no, very dishonest?) FBI 'agent's role in Clinton probe under review.' Led Clinton Email probe."
The president was responding to reports that a veteran FBI counter-intelligence agent was removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's team investigating Russian election meddling because of anti-Trump text messages.
The agent previously worked on the investigation into Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton's use of a private email server, reported the Hill.
In another tweet, Trump wrote, "Report: "ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE" Now it all starts to make sense!" he added.
Trump's tweets come after his former national security advisor Michael Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about conversations with the Russian ambassador in January.
